GGAA 2025 Year-End Review: A Chronological Dateline

January 2025

  • January 5: The GGAA National Administration along with the PA Chapter (under the PA Chapter leadership of Mr. Madison Gaye) hosted the first-ever public Town Hall Engagement Forum with Grand Gedeh County District #1 Representative, Hon. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan. 
  • January 15: The National Administration, led by President Edith Poah, extended condolences to Chief of Staff Jefferson Solo and former National President Fred Tarlue Gwyan on the passing of their respective mothers.
  • January 15: The Association congratulated Dr. Eric Z. M. Gbotoe on his appointment as President of Grand Gedeh University by H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai.
  • January 19: The National Administration engaged Superintendent Alex Chersia Grant regarding a disturbing social media video depicting the Grand Gedeh County Team in an unhealthy environment. The Administration demanded the inclusion of the GGAA Sports Committee in all county sports activities and requested a meeting with the County’s Chief Executive for updates.
  • January 31 – February 2: The GGAA convened in Atlanta, Georgia, for the 2024/2025 Annual Award Ceremony & Mini-Convention. Highlights included:
    • Longest-serving Board Member Hon. Eric Kohn received the highest Grand Gedeh Award.
    • Over forty leaders, including former National Presidents, Board Chairs, and veterans of the Diaspora Community, received Distinguished Service Awards.
    • Reviews and amendments to the GGAA Constitution

In Memoriam: The month of January recorded the heartbreaking loss of two staunch Union members: Madam Edith Suah and Madam Mary Jones.

February 2025

  • February 12: The National Administration met with the leadership of the North Dakota Chapter regarding Queen Rosina’s coronation.
  • February 20: The Administration announced the postponement of Queen Rosina’s coronation (originally set for March 1, 2025). The new date is scheduled for March 28, 2026.
  • February 24: The National Administration issued a directive for all Chapter Leaders to submit their Chapter Reports.

March 2025

  • March 1: Invitations were issued for the 2025 National Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. Leaders from home and abroad, including founding father Mr. Joseph Geebro, were invited.
  • March 4: With support from Hon. David Bantoe, the National Administration shipped a 40-foot container filled with medical and educational supplies to Grand Gedeh County.
  • March 7: National Vice President Isaac Nyenaweh arrived in Liberia to celebrate his mother’s 80th birthday. He utilized this visit to meet with the Grand Gedeh County Legislative Caucus and other stakeholders in Monrovia.
  • March 28: The National Administration held a strategic meeting with Grand Gedeh Senator Thomas Yaya Nimely regarding issues of county importance.

April 2025

  • April 1: The Administration congratulated Mr. Eddington Bobby Todey on his ascendency as Interim President of the GGAA Minnesota Chapter, following the departure of former President Floyd George.
  • April 3: The GGAA Virginia Chapter was revitalized under the “Poah/Nyenaweh Reawakening Agenda.” Mr. Daniel Gee and Mr. Emmanuel Nyounsiea were installed as President and Vice President, respectively.
  • April 3: President Edith Poah appointed Hon. Stanley Flahn as Chairman of the GGAA Membership Committee.

May 2025: The Golden Jubilee

  • May 4: Vice President Isaac Nyenaweh conducted a pre-convention assessment visit to Louisville, Kentucky, meeting with the Chapter leadership and the 2025 Planning Committee.
  • May 9: The GGAA 2025 National Convention (Golden Jubilee Celebration and 75th Birth Anniversary of late President Samuel K. Doe) commenced in Louisville. The Independent Elections Commission held debates featuring:
    • Presidential: Incumbent Edith Taryennoh Poah vs. Challenger Octavious Bestman Gilman.
    • Vice Presidential: Incumbent Isaac G. Nyenaweh vs. Madam Josephine Slueue.
  • May 10 – Morning Session: The GGAA National Administration through its Project Committee headed by Veteran Sampson Toe, launched the GGAA Multipurpose Park Project. Initial funds were raised and pledges were made. Adoption of the GGAA Constitution was made. The National President gave the State of the Union Address.
  • May 10 – Evening Session: The Convention continued with Mr. McCarvent Levi Madison delivering the Keynote Address. Hon. Jeremiah Garwo Sokan served as Guest Speaker, and Veteran Joseph Geebro served as Special Guest Speaker.
  • May 11: The Independent Elections Commission declared President Edith Taryennoh Poah and Vice President Isaac G. Nyenaweh winners of the 2025 General Elections.
  • May 14: Mr. Octavious B. Gilman resigned as President of the GGAA Michigan Chapter; Vice President Ophelia D. assumed the Presidency.
  • May 24: The Association released a statement of condolence on the passing of former First Lady Nancy B. Doe. A fundraiser committee was established, chaired by former National President Tillman Collins.

June 2025: Mission to Liberia

  • June 24: President Poah led a high-power delegation (including Vice President Isaac Nyenaweh and National Chaplain Beatrice Swen) to Liberia for the funeral of former First Lady Nancy B. Doe and the reburial of late President Samuel K. Doe.
    • Official Act: President Poah signed the Book of Condolence at the Centennial Memorial Pavilion in Monrovia.
  • June 26: The delegation traveled to Zwedru with the mortal remains of the First Family, spending a night in Toe’s Town.
  • Zwedru Engagements:
    • Funeral Rites: The GGAA leadership participated in the wake-keeping and interment, delivering a tribute and a purse of $13,100.00 to the Doe’s family (via Veronica Mamie Doe) and $300.00 to the Armed Forces of Liberia as a token of appreciation.
    • Park Groundbreaking: President Poah officially broke ground for the GGAA Multipurpose Community Park. The ceremony was officiated by Minister of Youth & Sports, Cllr. Jeror Cole Bangalu.
    • Educational Support: The delegation visited Grand Gedeh University College to discuss the Administration’s education agenda and met with the University Student Union.
    • Women’s Empowerment: A productive meeting was held with the Women of Grand Gedeh regarding issues affecting them.
    • Health Assessment: The team visited Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital. They inspected the 25kVA generator donated by the GGAA 15 years ago (under the Collins Administration/Hon. Augustine Manyeah). This visit complemented the earlier delivery of the 40-foot container of medical supplies.
    • Media: The visit concluded with a debut radio appearance on Voice of Gedeh before the team returned to Monrovia.

July 2025

  • July 2: The delegation met with Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue and the children of the late President Doe in Monrovia at Senator Pennue’s residence.
  • July 6: President Poah departed Liberia for the United States.
  • July 8: Vice President Nyenaweh held final meetings in Monrovia, including an engagement with Veteran Jailah Nyanue, Sr., before departing on July 11.
  • July 14: President Poah announced new appointments for her second term:
    1. Pastor Jefferson W. Solo: Chief of Staff (Retained)
    2. Mr. Peter K. Dadzie: Chairman, Ways & Means Committee
    3. Mr. David Nyanue: Chairman, Youth Committee

  • July 18: General Membership Meeting convened.
  • July 22: Madam Karine Wesseh was selected as Financial Secretary following an application process.
  • July 25: The Community mourned the passing of Mr. Stanley Gaye and Grandma Beautiful (Dorothy Zoe).
  • July 26: President Poah issued the 178th Independence Day Message, rallying citizens to uphold values of peace, unity, and progress.

August 2025

  • August 2: The National Board, Administration, and Legal Advisors met regarding ongoing legal representation.
  • August 3: The GGAA, with the PA Chapter, hosted a Town Hall with Senator Zoe Emmanuel Pennue.
  • August 3: Madam Helen Zelee Tarley was elected President of the GGAA Minnesota Chapter.
  • August 16:
    • Konobo District Association: President Poah attended the 2025 convention in Sioux Falls, SD. On behalf of the Grand Gedeh Association, the President donated $5,000 towards the District Ambulance Project. Personally, she donated $1,000 as a member of Konobo District Association and additional $1,000.00 on behalf of Bless The Children Foundation. 
    • Gbarzon District Association: Vice President Nyenaweh attended the 2025 convention in Minnesota, donating $5,000 on behalf of GGAA towards the District Youth Empowerment Center project in Gbarzon District.
  • August 19: President Poah pays a special family “mat visit” of late Stanley Gaye in Fargo, North Dakota, to identify and sympathize with the bereaved family, and negotiate for a change of burial date to accommodate all community leaders and members at the home going funeral service.
  • August 28: Madam Karine Wesseh officially assumed the role of Financial Secretary.
  • August 29: President Poah served as Guest Speaker for the inaugural gathering of the Grand Gedeh Association in Canada, accompanied by a delegation including veteran Doris K. Quiah, founding of the GGAA Women’s Wing, National Youth Committee Chairman David Nyanue, Mr. Harrison Bargblor, and Mr. Clovis Dixon.

September 2025

  • September 12 – 14: The 17th Inaugural Event was held in Philadelphia, PA.
    • Madam Edith Poah and her officers were sworn in for a second three-year term by Madam Eva Youboty, Deputy CEO of Wallace International Inc.
  • September 27: The Association engaged with CMC Leader Musa Bility to source support for the Multipurpose Park Project.

October 2025

  • October 5: The National President Madam Edith Poah, along with Vice president Isaac Nyenaweh, and National Secretary General Christopher Quiah alias DJ Chris D’Best arrive in Austin, Texas, to grace the Mini Convention of Texas Chapter, marking the ascendency of Robertson Garwo as President of Texas Chapter, taking over from Interim President Karine Wesseh.
  • October 8: President Poah constituted the 2026 National Convention Committee (DC Metro), appointing:
    • Chair: Min. S. Janyenne Glay
    • Co-Chair: Madam Mamie Reeves
    • Secretary: Madam Theresa Massaley
  • October 22: The Project Committee published a bid notice titled “Public Notice – Invitation to Bid” for the design and construction of the GGAA Multipurpose Park in Zwedru. The Bid process concluded on December 21, 2025, awarding OBJ Merchandise, Construction and Service Company of Zwedru, Grand Gedeh County.
  • October 24 & 31: The GGAA issued two strong statements condemning the illegal leasing of 500 acres of customary land in Gbarzon District by Superintendent Alex Chersia Grant.

November 2025

  • November 15: New Education & Training Committee appointments:
    • Chair: Mr. Neoh Yeber
    • Co-Chair: Mr. Archie Maoh
    • Secretary: Mr. Lawson Saydee
    • Member: Ms. Solange Grear
  • November 20: Submission of the Financial Report for the 17th Inaugural Program.
  • November 23: Congratulations extended to Peter Adolphus Sayee and his team on their election to lead the North Dakota Chapter.
  • November 29: President Poah led a delegation to Iowa for the funeral of the mother of former President and founding father Abugasha Kai.

December 2025

  • December 13: The National Youth Committee, led by Chairman David Nyanue, hosted a historic Children’s Christmas Toy Drive in Philadelphia, PA.
  • December 21: The Minnesota Chapter Youth Department hosted a historic “Youth Meet & Greet.”
  • December 21: President Poah and Mr. Augustus Williams conducted outreach in Delaware, meeting with long-standing members at the residence of Mr. Alfred Tarley to encourage active participation.
  • December 22 – 30: Holiday Break.
